A local resident remembers buying his first ice-lolly here: an ice block with half a plum inside. The shop also sold cheap bags of broken Smiths Crisps. The owner was generous with credit, and got into financial difficulties.

Partymad sold a large range of decorations, toys, balloons, jokes etc. for children’s and other parties. It was run by Sarah Morton whose husband Sir Alastair Morton was chairman of Eurotunnel which built the Channel Tunnel. In 1986 Partymad expanded next door to no. 69.
